these are in chronological order, most recent first, and this includes only food received for free (or i guess included in the price of the ticket). stuff purchased on board doesn't count. i wanna see what the airline has to offer without me spending any more than i need to!
burton's fish n chips
airline + flight date: british airways, 30/04/2024
thoughts: package is a little crumpled cos mom saved these for me, she knows i'm into plane snacks. this was the only food served on a 3.5ish hour flight. but they tasted great. texture just buttery and chewy enough, and the balance of salt to vinegar was good. shapes of two varieties: fish and abstract wavy thing (possibly to represent the water the fish swims in). bonus points for well matched cultural british staple dish! i must say, i wasn't really into salt & vinegar flavored snacks until i actually went to an authentic local chippy shop and had real chips with vinegar. then i couldn't turn back.
snatt's bocaditos and britvil oinjucie
airline + flight date: klm, 02/02/2024
thoughts: man, usually i love klm snacks and i fly with them the most, but this one was pretty mid. the bocaditos are supposed to resemble some kind of bruschette, i guess? the only thing they had going for them was the seasoning powder, because they were too crunchy for my taste. biting into them required too much jaw force than i like to use for my snacks. and the OJ was only alright, i don't have high expectations from juice made from concentrate, but i've definitely had better concentrate-based ones.
klm banana bread and carrot cake
airline + flight date: klm, 05/01/2024
thoughts: apologies for the bad images this flight was at the asscrack of dawn and i was not in all of my mental faculties. these were pretty good. banana bread was sweet but not too sweet, banana flavor felt natural, and it had walnuts. if anything it was a bit bland. carrot cake was also ok, i liked the (probably) brown sugar crumble on top, but i couldn't really feel any carrot flavor. it was just kinda sweet and fluffy sponge cake. the apple cake from the previous flight was better. didn't mind any of it though! it did the job. maybe docking some points for the sweet on sweet combo
klm cheese and egg salad sandwich and apple cake
airline + flight date: klm, 15/12/2023
thoughts: oh this one was a banger. i love egg salad and i love cheese, and this was pretty well executed. it was well seasoned, consistency was solid, it was a little chilled from the fridge... the only thing separating it from perfection is the bread, which is the classic dutch thin and poopy bread with no soul in it. it's okay though, i don't expect them to include fancy ciabatta bread in their sandwiches. the apple cake was also solid, i think there were some vague apple pieces in it and i really liked the flavor and fluffiness. also bonus points for the lore on the package. that was good in-flight entertainment, akin to reading the labels on cleaning products in the bathroom when you're having a long poop by yourself.
jacob's mini cheddars
airline + flight date: klm, 14/07/2023
thoughts: do not fret, this was another short flight so this amount of food is appropriate. pretty great cheese snack, makes me think of ritz crackers. and ritz crackers are great so this was great too. not very much to comment about to be honest. no complaints but no especially high praise either, just your run of the mill cheese crackers. better than peanuts!
klm coconut macaroon
airline + flight date: klm, 02/07/2023
thoughts: i have a knack for coconut flavored snacks, so they got me right with this one. it was a good size, round and pretty thick, and the texture was perfect with just the right amount of chewy. the coconut taste made it rich and almost filling, it was a great pick-me-up even for a short one hour flight. this was one of the best snacks i've ever had. they knocked it out of the park with this one
